Louis Tomlinson on band career: 'Not having any solo parts at the start was a tough pill to swallow'

Singer Louis Tomlinson has opened up about being put into a boyband line-up following his successful 'X Factor' audition in the One Direction lads' forthcoming new autobiography, 'Who We Are'.

In the book, the heartthrob confessed that he initially wanted a solo career so to be put into a group and not have any opportunity for getting his own individual parts was really tough: "I'm the type of person who likes being the centre of attention. For the whole of 'The X Factor' I didn't have a solo which, for me, was a tough pill to swallow."

The 'Story Of My Life' sensation went onto add that for a while in the beginning he felt as if he was just part of the furniture and as if his role in the boyband was worthless: "I was delighted but at the same time, couldn't really understand why I was in the band. That was really low, that feeling of not having a purpose, of just being along for the ride."

'Who We Are', which is 100% official, is due to be finally released on September 25 and the boys released a teaser clip via Instagram back in July that explained it will be incredibly personal and revealing: "Coming soon. You've been with them through every step of this story. This is how it feels to be inside the world of One Direction. This is 'Who We Are'."
