One Direction perform their first show without Zayn Malik

Last night saw One Direction giving their first live performance as a quartet following the sudden departure of Zayn Malik.

22-year-old Malik quit the band’s ‘On The Road Again’ world tour earlier this week due to stress.

The remaining members of the group – Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne – took to the stage for the first time since Zayn’s exit last night (March 21) in Manila, Philippines.

Fans noted that the foursome refrained from referring to themselves as “One Direction” with Zayn missing from the line-up. Instead they introduced themselves individually with their first names, just as they did last year when Malik was absent from a television performance on the Today show.

The British boy band all pitched in to cover Zayn’s solo vocals. Harry filled in the missing parts on ‘Little Things’ and ‘Story Of My Life’, whilst Liam tackled the high note during ‘You & I’.

At the end of the concert Harry Styles spoke to the crowd saying: “Thank you so, so much for being our fans. We love you. We love you very, very much.”

One Direction will continue to perform as a four-piece for another concert in Manila tonight (March 22) and again in Jakarta, Indonesia on March 25.
