One Direction make U.S. chart history

Boyband One Direction have made chart history in the USA today (October 10) by achieving the fastest-selling single by a UK artist with 'Live While We're Young'.

Their new single shifted a phenomenal 341,000 copies in one week, which has not only secured the lads the aforementioned record but has also given them the biggest opening week sales for a single by a non-U.S. artist ever. The song entered both the U.S. Digital Tracks and Digital Songs Chart at No.1 this afternoon.

Irish heartthrob Niall Horan expressed his excitement at the news and said: "We're so happy with the success of the single in the USA and can't wait for everyone to hear our new album. Thank you to all the fans once again!"

In addition to this, the video for 'Live While We're Young' recently became the most viewed clip in 24 hours ever on VEVO and it has since had over 51 million hits.

It was also announced earlier this week that One Direction have been nominated for an impressive 3 prizes at this year's American Music Awards in the categories of New Artist Of The Year, Favourite Album and Favourite Band.
