Sam Smith scores UK chart double with No. 1 album and single

Sam Smith has finished this week at the top of both the album and single charts.

‘Lay Me Down’ by Sam Smith and John Legend has debuted at No. 1 on the UK chart with a combined sales figure of 105,000.

Proceeds from the collaborative track have gone towards funds for Comic Relief which has raised £78,082,988 so far this year.

‘Lay Me Down’ is Sam Smith’s fourth No. 1 single following on from ‘La La La’ with Naughty Boy, ‘Money On My Mind’ and ‘Stay With Me’.

Over on the album chart, Smith’s ‘In The Lonely Hour’ has returned to No. 1 for an eighth non-consecutive week. It is the first album by a male solo artist to achieve six separate spells at the top of the UK chart.

Last week’s No. 1 single, ‘King’ from Years & Years, is now down to No. 2. Flo Rida is new in at No. 3 with ‘GDFR’ featuring Sage The Gemini. Ellie Goulding's 'Love Me Like You Do' is down two to No. 4. ‘FourFive Seconds’ by Rihanna with Kanye West and Paul McCartney is down two to No. 5 but is the most-streamed song of the week with 2.12 million plays.

New entries to the rest of the Top 40 come from Usher and Juicy J with ‘I Don’t Mind’ at No. 8, ‘Believe’ by Mumford & Sons at No. 20, and Calvin Harris’ ‘Pray To God’ featuring Haim at No. 35.
