Britney Spears named music's highest paid woman of 2012

Forbes magazine has named pop superstar and X Factor USA judge Britney Spears the highest paid woman in music this year.

Although Spears hasn't released an album or toured live throughout the past 12 months, she has still managed to achieve this impressive title based on the fact that she raked in an incredible estimated $58 million.

The magazine explained that her income came mainly from her 'Femme Fatale' comeback tour that grossed $68.7 million worldwide and the release of her 'Femme Fatale' album, along with her fragrance line and other endorsement deals.

Music attorney Lori Landew told Forbes that despite having a turbulent few years, Britney's attitude, popularity and strong work ethic work in her favour and would have helped secure the title: "Britney has an electricity that connects with audiences on screen and off, and it is that intangible quality that always seems to leave her fans, old and new, breathless."

Other top earners include Taylor Swift, with an estimated $57 million made in the past year, Rihanna with $53 million, Lady Gaga with $52 million, and Katy Perry who banked $45 million.
