Cheryl Cole has admitted to suffering a nervous breakdown following the collapse of her marriage to Ashley Cole.

The Girls Aloud star, who recently revealed the Chelsea star hasn’t apologised for his actions, makes the confession in her new autobiography, Cheryl: My Story:

"I just wanted to get out of the marriage and out of the house but as the day of the move got close I became more and more emotional.

"I hadn't anticipated this. I think I was actually going through a nervous breakdown."

The 29-year-old, who also says in the book that she attacked her ex-husband 'like a lunatic' when she first found about his cheating, goes on to add that she tried to put a brave face on for the public:

“On the face of it, I was coping.

“But I was still close to tears all the time. It was like my nerves were always close to snapping and I felt permanently on edge.”
