Coldplay named UK's biggest selling rock act of 2011
The Official Charts Company has confirmed that Coldplay were the UK's biggest selling rock act of 2011 and topped both the albums and singles lists.
The 'Violet Hill' superstars shifted a phenomenal 410,000 copies of their single 'Paradise' during the last 12 months, which has put them at the top of the leaderboard.
They also have 3 other singles in the top 20 including 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall' at No.4, which sold 247,000 copies, 'Fix You' at No.11 (124,000 copies) and 'Viva La Vida' at No.18 (96,000). The band also scored a No.1 in the top-selling rock albums of 2011 with 'Mylo Xyloto', which boasts sales figures of 908,000.
Other acts that feature in the countdown are Goo Goo Dolls, whose single 'Iris' made No.2 after selling 264,000 copies, Florence and the Machine who came in at No.9 with 'Shake It Out' (127,000), and Kings Of Leon at No.19 with their anthem 'Sex On Fire' (90,000).
The second biggest selling album of 2011 was Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds self-titled debut, which pulled in a staggering 492,000 purchases, and Florence and the Machine's 'Ceremonials' is right behind at No.3 after 384,000 copies were bought.
