Eminem almost wrote a diss track aimed at Kanye West and Lil Wayne

Eminem has disclosed that he once came close to writing a song that disparaged other rappers.

Talking to LA radio station Power 106, the Slim Shady star discussed his feelings of insecurity about his own music and talent during the time that passed between 2004’s ‘Encore’ album and 2009’s ‘Relapse’.

Eminem explained: “For that time period when I was away, I was watching what was going on in the game. Anything that was hot at that moment, anybody that was really killing shit. I felt so bad about myself and the music that I was creating, I felt I was starting to turn into a hater.”

He added: “Singling Kanye [West] and [Lil] Wayne out at that time period, they were the ones killing it the most to me and it hurt. I'd pop a CD in and be like 'f*** man, I’m not doing this no more'.”

However Eminem resolved not to go ahead with the song as he felt it would be “career suicide” and relaised that his issues were more deep-rooted than simple jealousy of other rap stars’ success.

The ‘Monster’ hitmaker stated: “There were times that it didn't feel good to be me. I think deep down I just wasn't happy with myself, man, you know? There were some really dark moments in there, when I think about my thought processes when I was a high a lot. It wasn't good and it certainly wasn't me. I'm not even that sort of person.”

Eminem is set to play a trio of US live dates with Rihanna in August.
