Kings of Leon lead midweek albums chart update with 'Mechanical Bull'

Rockers Kings of Leon have shot straight into the UK Top 40 albums chart at No.1 this afternoon (September 25) with their brand new studio album.

'Mechanical Bull', the band's sixth full-length record, has entered at the top spot during today's midweek update and if it holds onto this position until Sunday when the numbers are confirmed it'll give them their fourth UK chart-topper.

Canadian rapper Drake is on course to score his highest charting UK entry with 'Nothing Was The Same', which has debuted closely behind at No.2, and Jessie J's new offering 'Alive' has made an appearance at No.3. Elsewhere on the Top 40, Jason Derulo's 'Tattoos' is at No.5, 'Seasons of Your Day' by Mazzy Star is at No.17, and Olly Murs has slipped to No.39 with his latest release, 'Right Place Right Time'.

Earlier this month, Kings of Leon opened up about their recent break from music and member Nathan admitted it was intimidating to see how quickly people assumed they had split for good:

"It amazed me how, taking even that small of a break, people were already writing us off. I was getting condolence texts from friends: 'I'm sorry you broke up, man. Keep your head up, it will all work out.' I was laughing so hard, because none of us ever thought it was over."
