Gaga 'devastated' by the sentencing of Bradley Manning

Modern pop superstar Lady Gaga has spoken out about whistleblower Bradley Manning and told her fans that she was "devastated" to hear of his sentencing earlier today (August 21).

25-year-old US Army private Manning (pictured below) was convicted of sharing over 700,000 government files with WikiLeak and has now been sentenced to 35 years in prison.

Writing on her official Twitter page this afternoon, the 'Applause' hitmaker told her Little Monsters that this whole case is frightening and that there is no freedom or truth:

"The news of Bradley Manning's sentencing is devastating. If our own can't speak up about injustice who will? How will we ever move forward?"

Gaga is no stranger to addressing political issues and recently gave her opinion on Russia's new anti-gay laws, tweeting: "Sending bravery to LGBTs in Russia. The rise in government abuse is archaic. Hosing teenagers with pepper spray? Beatings? Mother Russia? The Russian government is criminal. Oppression will be met with revolution. Russian LGBTs you are not alone. We will fight for your freedom."
