New series of The Voice UK pulls in over 8 million viewers

The latest series of The Voice launched on UK television last night (January 11).

The re-vamped BBC talent contest sees Australian pop star Kylie Minogue and Kaiser Chiefs singer Ricky Wilson joining veteran coaches Will.i.am and Sir Tom Jones in their search for new musical talent.

The premier episode of the third series saw The Voice attracting an average 8.4 million viewers, and peaked at around 10 million.

The Voice went head-to-head with ITV’s diving show Splash! and won the ratings battle with the pool-side show achieving audience numbers of 3.7 million.

The new series of The Voice also beat the ratings of last year’s debut show – featuring Jessie J and The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue – which was seen by 7.4 million viewers.

The next episode of The Voice can be seen on BBC 1 on January 18 at 7pm.
