Arctic Monkeys and Haim are the frontrunners in this year's NME Awards nominations list.

The Sheffield group are up for eight gongs in total, whilst US newcomers Haim have six nominations.

Alex Turner and co. will vie for the Best British Band, Best Album and Best Live Band awards, among others.

Haim meanwhile find themselves nominated in the Best International Band category, as well as the Best Fan Community award.

Other nominees include Queens of the Stone Age and Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro, whose energetic stage presence sees them up for the Live award.

Glastonbury meanwhile will go to battle with the likes of T in the Park and Bestival in the Best Festival section.

Lou Reed, who died in October aged 71, is nominated for the Hero of the Year honour alongside the likes of Pussy Riot.

The awards will take place on February 26 at the O2 Academy in Brixton, London.
