Rik Mayall World Cup song rises to No.11

An England World Cup song featuring Rik Mayall is on the cusp of breaking into the UK top ten.

The British comedy icon passed away aged 56 earlier this week, sending the entertainment world into shock.

The Bottom star lent his voice to the track 'Noble England' four years ago to give his support to the England football team at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Jon Morter, who was the brains behind Rage Against the Machine's Christmas chart hijack in 2009, has encouraged the masses to buy the song again in light of Mayall's death and the impending 2014 World Cup.

The Official Charts Company have confirmed today (June 12) that the tune has shot up 27 places overnight to land at No.11.

Official Charts Company chief executive Martin Talbot commented: “Rik Mayall's death this week was a shock to a whole generation of comedy fans - and their reaction in pushing his 2010 single is a reflection of how much he was loved. In turn, his new hit also underlines how the Official Singles Chart remains a modern day barometer of public opinion."
