Radio 1 denies that La Roux was cut from playlist for being too old

Earlier this week, The Sun newspaper claimed that La Roux's new music had "been deemed ‘elderly’ and shunted off to Radio 2” by BBC Radio 1.

Her new material hasn't been well received by the station and The Sun revealed that singer Elly Jackson's age had something to do with it, which is bizarre considering that she is only 26-years-old.

Now, a spokesperson for the Radio 1 has explained that the singer's age had nothing to do with her lack of inclusion on the playlist: "Each track is considered for the playlist based on its musical merit and whether it is right for our target audience, with decisions made on a case-by-case basis."

Hitmaker Lily Allen recently slammed BBC Radio 1 for making bad decisions and told PressPlay that the bosses at the station have no idea what they're doing: "The truth is nobody knows what the f**k they're doing. They can pretend they’ve got a formula that works and [that] they 'know' they’re exactly in control of the game but they’re just not. No one knows."
