Iggy Azalea and Sam Smith have been announced to perform at a special MTV VMAs fundraising gig.

The two acts will play at the Avalon in Los Angeles on August 22 to raise money for Lifebeat's Music Fights HIV/AIDS education and prevention campaign.

It will serve as a precursor to the main VMAs awards ceremony, which Azalea is also due to perform at.

The Australian rapper is also nominated for seven gongs at the event, including in the Video of the Year and Best Female Video categories.

Sam Smith meanwhile is up for the Best Male Video and Artist to Watch prizes.
