Lady Antebellum praises Taylor Swift: 'She's a musical icon now'

'Need You Now' hitmakers Lady Antebellum have revealed that they're impressed with Taylor Swift's career progression as they think she has made some great choices as well as fantastic music over the years.

Speaking to E! News, the band's guitarist Charles Kelley explained that Swift has achieved something that's difficult in the music industry as she has managed to cross between genres while successfully maintaining fan bases in each:

I think she'll always have fans in the country genre. I mean it's where she started, but she's Taylor Swift, she's such a musical icon now, and I think it's no surprise. Her last record was definitely leaning towards the pop side."

Kelley went onto add that describing her new record, '1989', as a pop album was a smart decision because she's acknowledging a shift in style instead of trying to just bow out of the genre she started off in:

"To me, it's probably better that she says this is a pop record, let's be honest, it's a pop record' and kind of have that. But I think, when you get to that point, what is she on her fourth or fifth record? I think she just wants to explore, try new things, and I think she's at a point in her career where she can, if that's where her heart is."

Frontwoman Hillary Scott also spoke about Swift, admitting that she's counting the days until her album is released: "She has our support, I mean I think it's amazing. Not to mention, she's grown up in front of the world, and how much do your musical tastes change throughout the course of your life and growing up? So I'm very very excited for her record. I'm, like, counting down the days."
