Steve Strange has passed away at the age of 55.

The Visage singer suffered a heart attack whilst in Egypt on Thursday (February 12).

The musician was credited with being an important figure in the New Romantic movement.

A number of Strange's peers took to Twitter to pay their respects, with Boy George writing:

"Heartbroken about the death of my friend Steve Strange. So bloody sad. Such a big part of my life!"

Billy Idol said: "Very sad to hear of my friend Steve Strange @Stevevisstrange passing, RIP mate....."

Gary Kemp added: "Spandau in tears tonight. We dedicated our performance to Steve Strange. Without him we would never have been here. A maverick to the end."
