Geri Halliwell on getting older: 'No one is singing for my generation'

Songstress Geri Halliwell has revealed that women her age are under-represented in the entertainment industry.

The singer admitted that taking a break from the spotlight was important for her in order to just get back to herself and enjoy her age: "I'm proud to be older... A lot of me being away from all this was just to accept who I am with all my imperfections and be happy about it."

She went onto add that there's a distinct gap in the market for female singers who are older and she wants to fill it: "It bothers me that there are all these great female singers out there but there is no one singing for my generation and these songs are for women my age who have been through it and who are proud to be who they are. They are songs of optimism and life experience... and of course, you know I've been told writing songs for my generation absolutely won't work."

Halliwell's new solo album is due to be released next spring and confessed that she wants to show off her vocal ability: "I want people to hear that I can actually sing."
