Zayn Malik's 1D bandmates knew he was unhappy

Singer Zayn Malik, who famously quit One Direction back in March 2015, has revealed that his former bandmates knew he was unhappy for quite some time.

During a new interview with Zane Lowe, the heartthrob confessed that the 1D lads didn't have to 'figure out' his lack of passion and instead explained that it was quite clear from the beginning:

"I think the boys kind of knew - in terms of the music - that wasn’t my cup of tea... I think they always knew that. It wasn't something they had to figure out. They obviously didn’t want me to leave, but they couldn't talk me out of it at that point. I'd already made my mind up."

As previously reported, Malik also admitted that he never really felt enthusiastic about being part of 1D and always knew he would quit:

"I think I always kind of wanted to go, from the first year, really. I never really wanted to be there in the band, I just gave it a go because it was there at the time, and when I realised the direction we were going in - mind the pun - with the music, I instantly realised it wasn't for me, because I realised I couldn't put any input in."
