Singer Zendaya: 'I'm proud to be a role model for young people'

Singer and actress Zendaya has revealed that she continues to work in the entertainment industry because it's so important to use the platform to send out positive messages to young people

She won the Favourite Female TV Star - Kids' Show for her role on K.C. Undercover during the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards over the weekend and, during her inspiring acceptance speech, she spoke about her sense of responsibility as a role model:

"I've been doing this for a long time, and I do it for you guys. I just want you to know that doing and making positive programming for young people is so important to me, and I will keep doing it. To all the parents out there, thank you for allowing me to be a role model for your children."

Back in February, Zendaya told Glamour magazine that her purpose is clear and she wants to continue connecting with people using her music and acting: "I don't just sing, dance, and act because I love it. You have to have a purpose, and mine is to connect with the world, to get across messages that are important. I'd much rather be known for leaving a little stamp of positivity on one person's life than for the last project that I did."
