One Direction given space by Simon Cowell

One Direction, the boy band finalists from 2010's X Factor, have opened up about their careers in music since leaving the popular talent competition. 

Speaking to the Metro today, March 4, member Harry Styles explained that the boys have had little contact with their mentor Simon Cowell since X Factor ended:

"We speak to him a little bit every now and again."

Band mate Louis Tomlinson added:

"Simon’s the kind of guy that just needs to check in and make sure everything is flowing right and everyone is working the hardest they can work,"

"I think Simon wants us to be the artists we want to be and develop our own sound without being too generic."
