Sir Elton John's mother has spoken out about a rift that happened between them three years ago and caused them to lose contact with each other entirely. 

86-year-old Sheila Farebrother told The Sun that he "cut me off completely" and that it's "a painful subject":

"He has cut me off completely. It happened three years ago this June. He has had nothing to do with me since then."

"I don't want to go into what caused it. It is a painful subject. My son cut me out of his life for good."

She wouldn't reveal the cause of the falling out, but when asked if it had anything to do with John's partner David Furnish, she replied cryptically:

"It was something like that, but not exactly. I don't want to talk about it."
