Backstage at the soundcheck for the 2012 BRIT Awards

The glitterati of the pop world may have been preparing for tonight’s BRIT Awards at London’s 02 Arena for the last few days, but as this backstage behind-the-scenes report shows, it’s not exactly been all work and no play.

All celebrities' needs have been catered for, whether they want to be pampered in style at Lee Stafford’s Jzeush hair salon, receive a Union Jack-themed manicure or make use of the swanky spa, the Sienna X spray tan tent or enjoy free Decléor facials.

If they want to simply relax, they can do so in the Alice In Wonderland-style green room or the red velvet carpeted Artist’s Lounge. There, they will be able to feast on everything from savoury filled croissants to sausage and mash to All-American Club sandwiches.

Once the ceremony has finished, the after-show party will take place in a circus-themed backstage room, which comes complete with a fake elephant and helter-skelter. And like always, the performers and presenters will each walk away with a luxurious goodie bag containing an array of high-end items including Polaroid sunglasses, JBL speakers and Yaelle scarves.

Funnyman James Corden, who’s hosting the ceremony for the second consecutive year, has made it something of a family affair. His fiancé Julia Carey turned up to support him along with their baby boy Max, who has been listening to Rihanna and Coldplay’s rehearsals through a huge pair of headphones.

The Gavin and Stacey star, who will be wearing a brand new Tom Ford suit for the ceremony, has admitted that he’s so nervous about hosting again that he plans to hide out in his dressing room for two hours before the event begins.

Elsewhere, Chris Martin promised rumoured duet partner Noel Gallagher that he would come to his dressing room for a catch-up, whilst the signed and framed t-shirt and plaque dedicated to Whitney Houston attracted the interest of several stars including Rihanna.

On the stage, a hooded coat-wearing Bruno Mars was in high spirits as he belted out one of his greatest hits, ending with a brief tribute to Michael Jackson. And Florence + The Machine's frontwoman Welch unsuccessfully tried to persuade her band to join in on the dance routine during the run-through of her scheduled performance.
