Ryan Seacrest calls new American Idol judge Mariah Carey and says 'welcome to the family'
American Idol host Ryan Seacrest stopped by America's Today Show earlier this morning (July 26) and chatted about the addition of vocal sensation Mariah Carey to the talent contest's judging panel.
It was confirmed on July 24 that Carey had signed up to replace one of the two panelists that had quit the show, namely Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, and Seacrest explained
"I actually called her last night and I said, 'So welcome to the family.' I said, 'What are you going to be like on the show? She said, 'You know how I am: I'm very honest. I say what I'm thinking.' I said, 'Great. You'll fit right in'."
When asked about the third and final panelist, who is yet to be confirmed, he addressed some of the rumours that have been taking the press by storm and admitted that he doesn't know who might join American Idol because he only finds out "about an hour" before the news is released:
"I've heard rumors of Brad Paisley, I've heard rumors of Pink, I've heard rumors about all kinds of people. And the way that it works is we read about the rumors and about an hour before it's confirmed I get a call saying, 'Guess who's on the show'."
