Ben Howard: 'People groaned at the BRITs when One Direction were mentioned'

Double BRIT award winner Ben Howard has revealed that people at the 2013 ceremony weren't too excited about One Direction despite them being an internationally well-loved act.

The musician, who picked up trophies for 'Best British Breakthrough Act' and 'Best British Male Solo Artist', told The Sun newspaper that event goers 'audibly groaned' when the heartthrobs' names were called out during the 'Best Group' prize segment of the night:

"It was definitely a pretty tame awards show. There weren't many rock groups there. You heard this audible groan around the hall when One Direction were up for 'Best Group'."

Howard also joked about the public's reaction to his BRITs success, adding: "I got told that 'Who the f**k is Ben Howard' was trending on Twitter - I like the idea of it. I was never in music to make it to awards shows. I s**t myself when the paparazzi were taking photos."
