Californian radio station considers banning Macklemore song after pro-gay complaint

Radio station 98.7FM in California has asked listeners to decide whether to ban a Macklemore song after one member of the public complained that the track was pro-gay.

The song in question, 'Same Love', promotes equality and references the Washington Referendum 74, which legalised gay marriage in the hitmaker's home state. It also includes the lyrics:

"The right wing conservatives think it's a decision, and you can be cured with some treatment and religion."

A listener sent in a letter to the radio station condemning the single and it has since been posted to the station's Facebook page (April 15) along with a message asking whether or not the song should be removed from the playlist.

The original letter said: "I find Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’s newest single “Same Love” offensive. The imagery the song talks about is a raw subject a great multitude of people have a hard time dealing with when we know homosexuality is wrong, but have friends and loved ones who are indeed in same-sex relations."

"This letter is not about stopping people from making their choices in life, it’s about those of us who want to be entertained without feeling majorly sickened and uncomfortable by a song playing in a store."

A representative from 98.7Fm has revealed that they don't agree with the letter as a company and they 'just want people to do their thing and be happy.'
