Shelter spokeswoman: 'Justin Bieber is abandoning his pet monkey'

Canadian sensation Justin Bieber has been given until Friday, May 17 to claim his pet monkey, named Mally, who was seized by officials at Munich airport because he didn't have the adequate paperwork to keep him.

The adorable capuchin was taken to the Munich Animal Protection League centre after Bieber was denied permission to carry Mally around on tour, but shelter spokeswoman Judith Brettmeister has revealed that the teen superstar won't be coming back to collect him:

"Bieber's lawyers have indicated they would like to leave the monkey. From an animal rights perspective, it would have been better to do that before, as he is being kept well here but not with other members of his own species. But it is now jumping around, learning slowly to climb and to use its tail."

The 'Boyfriend' heartthrob took to his official Twitter page earlier this evening (May 13) and told his fans around the globe that he's looking forward to some time off following his Believe tour: "Glad to chill for a few days. gonna take it easy. that was an amazing tour. thanks to all the fans around the world. #grateful to all of u."
