Songwriter Ed Drewett on new One Direction single: "It's catchy as f***"

Songwriter Ed Drewett has opened up about One Direction's forthcoming new song.

The boyband are releasing the track 'Best Song Ever' as their next single and fans are eagerly anticipating the tune.

Speaking to the Daily Star, songwriter Ed Drewett said that the track came about after he was drinking whisky. He said:

"We were on the Jameson, turning the lights down low and jamming and we created that song. We knew we’d got something good.

"As a songwriter for other people you have to grow with them and think: ‘What part of their lives and careers are they at now?’ It’s a little more rocky but still catchy as f***. It’s a fun little tune."

Drewett added: "We did another couple of days writing with Louis [Tomlinson] and Liam [Payne] and that was great. They loved the studio environment and getting involved. They have a real passion for music."

'Best Song Ever' meanwhile is due to be released on July 22.
