Miley Cyrus defends homeless VMAs guest after media reveal legal troubles

Miley Cyrus has supported her homeless VMAs guest after it was revealed that he is wanted by police for violating probation.

The singer brought homeless runaway Jesse to the event on Sunday (August 24) and his identity was revealed when he went on stage to collect Cyrus's Video of the Year prize.

He spoke on behalf of homeless youths and the singer then invited people to donate to a homeless shelter in Hollywood.

It has been reported that Jesse is wanted by police in Salem, Oregon for violating probation in relation to charges of criminal trespassing and criminal mischief which were brought against him in 2010.

Speaking on Twitter, Cyrus has criticised the media for focusing on the wrong issue:

"People who are homeless have lived very hard lives. Jesse included. I hope that this can be the start of a national conversation about youth homelessness and how to end it.

"Does looking down upon the homeless help people excuse their inaction? The media never fails to disappoint. You've chosen to go after Jesse instead of covering the issue of youth homelessness."

Cyrus concluded: "While they obsesses over one homeless mans legal issue lets help the other 1.6 million homeless (sic)."
