"One of the albums of the year” – Independent

Having released her critically acclaimed album ‘Ebb & Flow’ in 2014, troubadour songstress Judith Owen is continuing the pace with the release of her third single, ‘Train Out Of Hollywood’. The opening track on the album features the legendary musicians Leland Sklar, Waddy Wachtel and Russell Kunkel who reunited to record, and subsequently perform, with Judith. ‘Train Out Of Hollywood’ is based on Judith’s first experiences living in Los Angeles, the people she encountered and their “desperation for success” - something she could relate to.

“I was both shocked at how everyone in LA is ‘on’; your valet parker, your bus boy, your gynaecologist, your dental hygienist; they’re all ready to give you a script, to audition for you and I related to it because as an artist/ musician, I’m desperate too. We all have that needy-ness to us, that bottomless pit of need otherwise we wouldn’t be putting ourselves through this.” – Judith Owen. Shot in LA the humorously surreal video, featuring Judith and a table of look-a-likes (Marilyn, Judy Garland, Charlie Chaplin et al), portrays the misconception that fame and stardom lead to happiness.

The Welsh singer-songwriter has earned overwhelming support from the American and British media. Q Magazine gave the “classy” album 4 stars, the Daily Mirror described it as “potent throughout” and the Telegraph highlighted it as one of the best folk music albums of 2014. Stellar performances on her sold out tour dates, at Cheltenham Jazz Festival and on Radio 2’s Weekend Wogan led to further acclaim from Radio 2 presenters Bob Harris, Jamie Cullum and Michael Ball. Judith is returning to Radio 2 on the 9th March, to pre-record a session on Bob Harris’s show.

Leading up to the release of ‘Train Out Of Hollywood’, WBBC will premiere Judith’s Under The Apple Tree video session on 30th January. Described by The New York Times as a "funny and fearless performer", Judith will enchant audiences on her spring tour with a striking combination of “amusing tales and bewitching tunes” (Record Collector), temporarily reviving the long lost musical spirit of the 1970s troubadours that influenced her.

Along with her fun-loving side, Judith is known for baring her soul in her songs, a characteristic that carries across to her live shows with ease. This emotional duality is what makes her such a unique entertainer. Managing to effortlessly present both the juxtaposing themes of happiness and melancholy, there’s an ebb & flow to Judith’s performance, one that’s not only mirrored in her album title, but also needs to be experienced in person. Following her spring UK tour, the summer is looking equally as bright with more live appearances planned including Cropredy Festival on the 14th August.
