BBC secures over half of nominations for the RTS Awards 2019Awards Ceremony Tuesday, 19 March, 2019OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASENEWS PROVIDED BY BBC One The BBC has secured over half of the total nominations for the RTS awards, picking up 47 nominations out of a total of 81. A hugely successful year across different genres meant that the BBC was represented in categories covering drama, comedy, entertainment, factual, arts, daytime, events and sport as well as picking up two nominations for Channel of the Year for BBC One and CBeebies. In five categories BBC programmes accounted for all three of the nominations - Actor (Female), Comedy Performance - Female, Comedy Performance – Male, Daytime and Early Peak Programme, Science and Natural History. Charlotte Moore, BBC Director of Content, says: "I’d like to congratulate all the nominees today. We’re very proud to have BBC programmes represented in over half of the nominations for this year’s awards. Whatever the pressures in the market to specialise, the BBC remains committed to commissioning programmes across all genres and for all audiences - and it’s great to see that recognised in today’s announcement.” The RTS recognised stand out programmes across the BBC including standout dramas such as Peaky Blinders and A Very English Scandal; comedy including Famalam and Detectorists; factual programming including Blue Planet II, A dangerous Dynasty: The Assads, Love and Hate Crime, Grenfell, and Drowning in Plastic; as well as sport and events (Match of the Day - 2018 World Cup, The Royal Wedding: Prince Harry & Meghan Markle). There was also individual recognition for on and off-air talent across a wide range of BBC programmes. Those recognised were: Michaela Cole (Black Earth Rising), Sandra Oh (Killing Eve), Jodie Cromer (Killing Eve), Ben Whishaw (A Very English Scandal), Nabhaan Rizwan (Informer), Sian Gibson(Peter Kay’s Car Share - Finale), Lesley Manville (Mum), Daisy May Cooper (This Country), Reece Sheersmith & Steve Pemberton (Inside No. 9), Samson Kayo (Famalam), Alex Murphy & Chris Walley (The Young Offenders), Michael McIntyre (Michael McIntyre's Big Show), Romesh Ranganathan (Romesh Ranganathan - The Misadventures of Romesh), Bobby Friction(Pump Up the Bhangra), Gary Lineker (Match Of The Day: World Cup 2018), Osi Umenyiora (NFL), Stefan Golaszewski (Mum), and Russell T Davis (A Very English Scandal).
