Interview with Cheryl on The Greatest Dancer

The Greatest Dancer live shows start Saturday 1 February on BBC One

What made you choose your final three acts to represent you in the live shows? And what does each one bring to the dance floor?

I chose Lily and Joseph because their ability at their age was so impressive and I just knew we would work well together. I chose The Queens because they were interesting and different, and I know I can do great things with them which I think is exciting for the viewers and myself. I chose Brothers of Dance because of the way I felt when I watched them, I had goosebumps from the start to the finish and that’s always a good sign.

What are you doing to help prepare your acts ahead of the live shows?

They’ve all been training so hard, I’m there to advise and encourage and make sure they’re feeling strong mentally as well as physically!

Which act do you think is your biggest competition?

I think they’re all competitors in their own way, but I think Harrison is extremely talented, and also Hannah!

Brothers of Dance

Aged between 15 and 30, Brothers of Dance is an all-male contemporary group from all over the UK.

What does it mean to you to be chosen in Cheryl’s final three?

To be chosen by Cheryl feels amazing, it’s a chance for us to show the nation that it’s okay for boys to dance. No matter what your background, upbringing or age, you can do whatever you want if you work hard enough. We are a brotherhood in and out of dance, and to be given this amazing opportunity feels like a dream come true.

Lily and Joseph

Lily, 11, and Joseph, 8, are a contemporary duo from North East England.

What does it mean to you to be chosen in Cheryl’s final three?

We can’t believe Cheryl chose us! She danced from a young age just like us, and she is such an inspiration to us both. We can’t believe how lucky we are to get this amazing opportunity, we’re still pinching ourselves every day. We’re really excited to spend time with Cheryl and do what we love the most.

The Queens

Aged between 25 and 27, The Queens are an all-female jazz dance group based in London.

What does it mean to you to be chosen in Cheryl’s final three?

To be chosen to be in Cheryl’s final three means everything to us. It means game on! The overwhelming feeling to have the support, recognition and acceptance by such an icon has given us such a confidence boost in who we are and what we do. To be given this opportunity to show everyone what we are made of, on prime-time TV no less, is priceless to us and it will not go amiss. We are a group of like-minded women who have been lucky enough to find each other through the uncertainty of our extraordinary industry. Together we are the best versions of ourselves and have united as Queens.
