How did it feel to be asked to take part in Talking Heads?
I was so pleased to be asked to do Alan Bennett'sTalking Heads - it is a great honour to be asked to perform some of Alan’s work. He is such a fantastic writer. The only reservation I had was learning 14 pages, but Alan’s writing is so good it wasn't a struggle in the end.

Without giving too much away, can you tell us a little about your character and the monologue?
Marjory is a boxed-in character in many ways, both physically and emotionally. She is an obsessive thinker who dreams of living in a perfectly clean world, but something is niggling away at her...

Did you discuss the role/monologue much with Alan Bennett ahead of or during rehearsals? Had you seen the original The Outside Dog, or did you watch in advance?
I did have a lovely chat with Alan beforehand on the phone - his voice is so distinctive, it was fantastic to listen to. I didn't watch the original with Julie Walters beforehand as I wanted the material to be new to me, however I have watched it since and it is brilliant.

How did you find filming under social distancing guidelines?
Every single person working on the day was brilliant! I couldn't have asked for more I felt so safe and protected from the moment I entered the gates of the BBC studios at Elstree. I am so grateful to everyone, it made me feel relaxed and able to get on with the job at hand. The only weird bit about the day was doing my own hair and make-up. Make-up teams are magicians.

Why should people tune in to watch The Outside Dog?
Because it’s a classic, timeless piece from one of the all-time legends of British writing.

What do you think it is that makes Alan Bennett’s writing so special?
Alan Bennett's writing is immediately identifiable. His character-driven stories and impeccable attention to detail offers a journey of the human spirit on every page.
