What is Billy like? Can you describe him in five words?

Scary, uncomfortable, mean, motherless child!

Is there anything you can tell us about Billy without giving too much away?

Billy is not a nice guy, and he gets involved in our story really early on. At firs,t he is very mysterious, and later on we get to meet him and find out more about him and how he snakes his way through our story. I mean, let’s just put it this way, none of the characters would like to see him. It’s usually not good news when you see Billy.

Why did you want to be involved in this project?

Firstly, to work with Two Brothers again – this is my third outing with them, and I have nothing but love for Jack and Harry and their projects. I think they write amazing stuff, and I was honestly quite happy just from the moment I heard about it. But then when I read the scripts, it just reminded me of an old Hitchcock movie, and for it to take place in the outback of Australia, a place I have only seen in films. To get to actually go out there and really get into the dust and the dirt of the outback is just really special.

What was it about Billy that drew you to the role?

Any actor who would be offered Billy would be frothing at the mouth. It’s one of those roles that you just want to do. It’s been quite thrilling, I’d say Billy is a narcissist and probably a high functioning psychopath, but it’s a lot of fun to play someone like that. It’s funny for an actor to play someone like Billy because he’s sort of borderline uncomfortable and that’s what I was looking for. I want everyone to be uncomfortable all the time when he’s in the room. It’s just pretty awesome to be a part of such an epic story. I can also describe it as a modern western because of where it takes place and also the size of the characters involved.

Have you been able to get involved in the stunt sequences? What was that like?

I’ve got to do a couple of things; I got to fall 2 metres back into a well, I mean there’s a lot of foam there, so I was safe. But that’s pretty great, I’ve had the chance to walk off roofs and stuff. It’s pretty amazing to do something and still feel safe, someone’s looking out for you and allowing you to try different things. It’s just a different thing, you have to have trust in the people around you and I like that. It’s a nice part of the job, to look someone in the eye and go at them, in a safe way!

How was it filming in some of the incredible locations in South Australia?

I was coming in and out, we were shooting up North, which was a four-hour drive from Adelaide, and after the rest of the crew had been there for 5 weeks, the cars were just covered in dust. Everything inside was covered in dust! And I just loved it, I got to crawl around in the dust and the mud, and for someone who has never been here before and only seen Australia in movies, I’ve just completely fallen in love with it. The outback is one of those places which I can imagine is hard to leave. It’s probably a pain in the ass often, but it’s such a beautiful pain in the ass. You’re drawn to it again and again. I have loved it, If I ever have the chance to film here again, I’m definitely coming back!

What can audiences expect from the series?

I think the audience is going to love this show. The little I’ve seen looks really epic, the outback and South Australia really comes off as an iconic place to shoot and I think people are really going to be wrapped up in it. I’ve had a few years in Scandinavia, doing Scandinavian thrillers, and I think this is just opposite poles but the same kind of epic storytelling. It has great, interesting characters and it has a story where we as an audience are discovering what is happening with everyone involved, and I think that is really exciting. So when I read the scripts I ran through them because they’re like a great book.
