Ahead of the natural history landmark Frozen Planet II launching at 8pm on BBC One Sunday 11th September, Earth Prom guests will be treated to a live performance of the first look trailer at the Royal Albert Hall.

In celebration of these magical frozen worlds, four-foot ice sculpture emperor penguins and polar bears will line the steps of the Royal Albert Hall creating a hauntingly beautiful scene from the polar regions, accompanied by poignant messaging from Sir David Attenborough.

“As we appreciate the stunning beauty of the frozen parts of our planet, let’s not forget what we must do to save it”

As the statues slowly melt, we will be reminded of the impact of global warming on our frozen worlds and the challenges faced by a heroic cast of animals, from polar bears to penguins, snow monkeys to Siberian tigers, each species must overcome a unique set of challenges to endure its extreme environment.

The sculptures have been created by an eco-friendly company with a focus on sustainable practices. Only natural ingredients (water) have been used and the recyclable plinths have been designed to collect the meltwater and then reused to replenish the plants around the Royal Albert Hall.

Jonny Keeling, Head of Natural History Unit said: “I’m thrilled to see Frozen Planet II arriving at the Royal Albert Hall with these amazing penguin and polar bear ice sculptures for the whole family to enjoy while being reminded of the challenges these animals face in the extreme frozen worlds”.

This year’s Earth Prom forms part of the BBC Prom season and takes a look back at a stunning audio-visual celebration of the BBC’s world-famous Natural History Unit, from David Attenborough’s pioneering early adventures through to the landmark series of the 21st century. Expect breath-taking images, natural sounds, spoken words and music by composers including multiple Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer and George Fenton, performed live in the spectacular surroundings of the Royal Albert Hall by Ben Palmer and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

A 5 minute preview of Frozen Plant II will be shown at the Earth Prom accompanied by live music by composing legend Hans Zimmer and features Norwegian singer/songwriter AURORA who features on the soundtrack for the series.

AURORA says: "Our world and our environment has always been a heart matter for me. I’ve believed that communicating her beauty, and her importance through art, music, and film is what touches us the most. It shows us what it is that is worth saving, it stirs our natural instinct. Being a part of this incredible project, working with such wonderful people - has been an absolute honour. I can’t wait for the world to see the world through the eyes of herself. Captured with patience and respect, and made with love."
