Welcome to Waterloo Road! How excited are you to be joining the cast of this series?

I was buzzing for it, as soon as I heard, I was like I’ve got to be a part of that and obviously being from Manchester and the show coming back to Manchester, it was like yeah, I’ve got to be a part of it. And everyone is just lovely, there’s a great vibe to just the place itself so I think the audiences are going to love it.

Can you tell us about your character Mike and what audiences can expect to see from him?

I play sergeant Mike Rutherford. I’m married to the deputy head, and we have two kids, two foster children at the school. So he's kind of like navigating through that process and just seeing what that's about and what's happening.

Do you have any fun stories from filming you can share with us?

We did a press up challenge the other day, and I feel like I need to mention that because I won, but actually it's not really a funny story (laughs).

What was your own experience of school like?

I was a little terror, I was a class clown. I think everything from my school days resonated with what's happening in Waterloo Road. I think they are properly just capturing that essence of what it’s like to be at a Manc school, it just reminds me of people from school and what we were like, it's amazing.
