38 year old Ngoneh works as a nurse. Born in Gambia she now lives in Hull with her husband and two young daughters.

How would you describe your style of cooking?

“My style of cooking is inspired by my Gambian heritage, I love to cook Gambian Food for my family and friends using authentic West African spices.”

What is your earliest cooking memory?

“I don’t really remember not cooking when I was little, it must have been around age seven that I’d start cooking the rice for my mum at home. Myself and my five siblings all took turns, cooking was just part of life growing up and it’s never stopped.”

Why did you enter MasterChef?

“I blame my husband! He signed me up without me knowing! He knows how much I love cooking, food and bringing joy to people through my dishes so he took the plunge for me. I guess it was my own confidence that held me back doing it myself but I’m so pleased he believed in me and put me forward.”

What is your food dream?

“I love my job as a nurse and love helping people. I’d love to carry this through into my food and make people happy through my dishes, to be able to sell authentic African spices, sauces and Gambian ready make food would be a dream.”
