How do you feel to have made it this far in the race, with just the final leg to complete?

Mobeen: I’m really happy, especially to be heading into this last leg in first place. For the first six weeks we hadn’t come first in any of the legs, so it’s been nice to finally experience that. I am quietly confident going into this last leg and I’m trying to win! That’s been our plan throughout the whole race, try to spend as little as possible so that we have a big enough budget and money left over to push to the end.

Zainib: It’s really exciting but I’m also already immensely proud of how far we have come knowing that two other teams didn’t make it. I thought we would have run out of money by now or have been eliminated. I’m just feeling really proud that we’ve gotten this far.

What has been the highlight of your experience so far?

Mobeen: It’s hard to choose as the experiences have been amazing. Whistler, Kluane National Park being able to go down the Alaska Highway in the RV, Churchill, Quebec City at night – that was wicked. But the main thing for me was definitely being able to do this with Zainib, getting to spend time with her twenty-four seven, day in day out. We’re so busy with our work normally, you can hardly ever get us in the same room together. So, it has been so nice to do this once in a lifetime experience with her – that was the best thing about it for me.

Zainib: The tidal bore experience from the last leg was so much fun, that was the most fun thing I’ve ever done. But the top highlight for me has been getting to travel with Mobeen and spend this time with him.

What’s your biggest lesson from the journey so far?

Mobeen: My biggest life lesson has been the concept of paying kindness forward.

Zainib: For me, it’s don’t be afraid to be yourself and don’t be afraid to be out there – that’s been the biggest lesson for me.

What would winning the race mean to you?

Mobeen: I think just getting to the end will be the biggest win because it’s an endurance race. Having seen how the others have spent budget along the way and how we’ve done, just to get to the end will be amazing.

Zainib: Winning will be the cherry on top of an already delicious cake. The cake has been awesome but if we win it, it’ll be just perfect.

If you don’t win, who would you want to win?

Mobeen: Genuinely I can’t choose, they’re all such lovely people. The ladies, and Ladi – I just love him.

Zainib: I’d love Cathie and Tricia to win. We’ve said this from the get-go that if we don’t win, we’d want those guys to win.
