BBC Music announces packed coverage of Reading and Leeds Festival 2023 across TV and Radio

BBC One will broadcast two special shows which will feature highlights of the headline sets from Billie Eilish and The Killers

BBC Music will return to Reading and Leeds Festival across the August Bank Holiday with packed coverage across TV and Radio including BBC One, BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 1Xtra and BBC Introducing.

From Friday 25 August to Sunday 27 August, the Radio 1 Dance Stage and 1Xtra Stage will play host to some of the biggest names in music, while the BBC Introducing Stage will remain the best place to catch the most exciting emerging artists.

Radio 1 and 1Xtra will be broadcasting live from Reading to deliver all of the most memorable moments across the weekend directly to listeners, from exclusive backstage interviews to headline performances from some of the world’s biggest artists. Listeners can tune in live on BBC Sounds as well as on Radio 1 and 1Xtra. Matt Edmondson and Mollie King; Katie Thistleton and Vicky Hawkesworth will be covering the festival on Radio 1 across the weekend; while DJ Target will head up the action on 1Xtra.

TV

The Killers @ Reading & Leeds Festival 2023 will broadcast on Sunday 27 August at 11.40pm. The Killers will return to Reading Festival to headline for the second time, having first graced the top spot back in 2008. Nearly twenty years on from the release of their iconic debut album Hot Fuss, audiences can expect a setlist full of huge sing-a-long anthems and indie disco classics.

Billie Eilish @ Reading & Leeds Festival 2023 will broadcast on Monday 28 August at 11.15pm. Global superstar Billie Eilish will return to Reading Festival, this time to headline the Main Stage East, where in 2019 she drew arguably the biggest crowd of the weekend. At just 21, she will become the youngest solo artist to headline the event.

Radio 1

The Radio 1 Dance Stage will be the place to catch the hottest acts from the Dance music world, with high energy sets from the likes of MK, Eliza Rose, Sub Focus b2b Dimension, LF System and Girls Don’t Sync.

Radio 1 will be broadcasting live from Reading from 11am - 4pm on Friday 25 August and Saturday 26 August and from 1pm – 4pm on Sunday 27 August, bringing listeners live tracks from some of the biggest artists performing across the weekend from the two Main Stages (Main Stage East and Main Stage West).

On Friday 25 August, Katie Thistleton and Vicky Hawkesworth will kick off the day bringing all of the excitement to listeners at home (11am - 1pm). Matt and Mollie will take the reins from 1-4pm, promising plenty of laughs alongside interviews and live performances.

Katie and Vicky (11am – 1pm) and Matt and Mollie (1pm – 4pm) return for round two on Saturday 26 August and, on Sunday 27 August, Matt and Mollie will bring listeners all of the backstage build up for the final day of the festival (1pm – 4pm).

In addition, on Sunday 27 August, there will be a special show – Radio 1 at Reading and Leeds Festival (10pm – 11.20pm) - dedicated to Billie Eilish, featuring live coverage from her headline set at Reading.

Radio 1’s Indie Show with Alyx Holcombe (9pm – 10pm) and BBC Introducing on Radio 1 with Gemma Bradley (11.20pm – 1am) will also be dedicated to Reading and Leeds 2023, bringing listeners the biggest and best sets from across the weekend.

And, for anyone feeling the post-festival blues, on Monday 28 August Daniel P Carter will be re-living some of the highlights from the Festival on Radio 1’s Rock Show (11pm – 1am).

1Xtra

The 1Xtra Stage at Reading and Leeds will be home to some of the hottest names in Black music hailing from the UK and further afield, with performances from the likes of, Meekz, Dréya Mac, D Double E, K-Trap, Lost Girl and many more. Radio 1 and 1Xtra’s very own Kenny Allstar and 1Xtra’s DJ Target will also take to the stage throughout the weekend.

From 7-9pm on Saturday 25 August, DJ Target will bring listeners all of the action and festival vibes from Reading with 1Xtra’s Reading Party.

On Friday 1 September, 1Xtra’s Rap Show with Kenny Allstar will bring listeners highlights from Central Cee’s Main Stage set at Reading.

BBC Music Introducing

The BBC Introducing stage has been a familiar sight at the festival for over a decade, providing the ultimate destination for festival-goers to find their new favourite act before everyone else has heard about them and playing a crucial role in propelling UK acts to new heights. Over half of the 2023 line-up, including Yard Act, Bilk, The Snuts, Georgia, The Amazons, Don Broco, and Easy Life, have risen from the Introducing Stage with monumental slots and support from the platform on their journeys. The stage has also previously witnessed jaw-dropping surprise sets from superstars like Ed Sheeran, The 1975, Loyle Carner and many more.

This year, it promises unforgettable performances from the most influential and exciting names in indie, alternative, hip-hop and dance with over twenty acts set to perform including; nu-metal influenced sister duo, ALT BLK ERA, who will headline Friday at Reading and Saturday at Leeds, Hastings based vibrant indie breakout girl band, HotWax, will headline Saturday at Reading and Sunday at Leeds and Ivor Novello nominated folk-pop artist, Matilda Mann, will headline Friday at Leeds and Sunday at Reading, plus many more exciting acts.

One track from each artist performing on the BBC Introducing stage will be filmed and made available at bbc.com/introducing.

In addition, on Saturday 26 August (8pm – 10pm), BBC Music Introducing in Berkshire will broadcast a special live show from Reading, whilst BBC Music Introducing in West Yorkshire, BBC Music Introducing in York and North Yorkshire, BBC Music Introducing in Sheffield and BBC Music Introducing in Humberside will broadcast a special live show from Leeds with Emily Pilbeam, Christian Carlisle, Alan Raw and Jericho Keys. Both live broadcasts will feature live performances from the BBC Introducing Stages.
