BBC Factual today announced the return of three popular documentary programmes - Saving Lives in Cardiff, Murder 24/7 and This Farming Life - totalling four new series and 36 hours of new programming.

Saving Lives in Cardiff

Filming is underway at the Cardiff and Vale University Hospitals for a new series of Saving Lives, from Label1 (a Fremantle label), the makers of multi award-winning documentary series Hospital and Worlds Collide: The Manchester Bombing.

Following the critically acclaimed series Saving Lives in Leeds based at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, the new series will follow the daily decisions made by clinicians, as they seek to transform the lives of their patients in South Wales, against a backdrop of mounting waiting lists.

Featuring observational filming and in-depth interviews. the programmes will reveal the full scale of clinicians’ caseloads, taking us to the heart of compelling and life affirming patient stories at the heart of the largest hospital in Wales. The series is due to air on BBC Two and BBC Wales next year.

The series explores the difficult decisions clinicians must make every day in deciding who is treated next and the real impact this has on the lives of patients and their families – and the staff who care for them. All set against the backdrop of the longest national waiting list for specialist clinical care or surgery in NHS history.

Murder 24/7

The hit documentary series Murder 24/7 returns to BBC Two and iPlayer, this time filmed with West Mercia Police in the West Midlands. The series follows murder investigations from multiple perspectives in real time. Every decision and every lead, minute by minute, from the critical first few days right through to arrest and conviction.

Across a number of different murder cases, Murder 24/7 will take viewers to the very heart of the police investigation in an unprecedented level of detail.

Detectives, senior investigating officers, manhunt specialists, forensic analysts, dog handlers, interviewing officers, crime scene managers, phone analysts, and lawyers are just some of the specialists from the vast team of experts who must work together to solve the crime.

Murder 24/7 follows the twists and turns, dead ends and breakthroughs of complex murder investigations. Forensic work at the crime scene, interviews with witnesses, trawling CCTV, analysing mobile phones, executing search warrants, and hunting down suspects, no stone is left unturned in the race to catch the killer.

This Farming Life

This Farming Life, the documentary series that follows the lives of farmers in rural Scotland through the four seasons of a year has been commissioned for two new series from BBC Studios.

Over the past six series’ This Farming Life has attracted a hugely loyal audience , as viewers follow the triumphs and tribulations of a five very different farming families, from a range of farming communities set in the beautiful Scottish countryside.

Series six is currently broadcasting on BBC Scotland and BBC Two and the previous series, which is available on BBC iPlayer, attracted a consolidated audience of over 3 million viewers.

Two series of This Farming Life have been commissioned by Clare Sillery, Head of Commissioning, Documentaries and Louise Thornton, Head of Commissioning, Scotland.
