BBC Radio 1Xtra has unveiled changes to its weekend schedule to take effect this autumn.

• Former 1Xtra Resident Nadia Jae will take on the Weekend Breakfast show
• Sideman will host a brand new show in the Saturday lunchtime slot
• Sundays on the station will become home to 1Xtra Old Skool

Nadia Jae will take the reins on 1Xtra’s Weekend Breakfast show (6-10am) from mid-October. Nadia, who joined the station in 2018 as part of 1Xtra’s Residency, will be bringing plenty of fun and energy to the morning slot, along with the best R&B bangers and a healthy serving of tea to get listeners through the weekend.

Meanwhile, 1Xtra favourite Sideman lands his first regular solo show on the station as he takes on the Saturday afternoon slot (1-4pm). Never one to shy away from a challenge, Sideman will be bringing listeners tons of entertainment and great music every weekend.

And Sundays will have a whole new look on the station, as the focus turns to all things Old Skool between 9am-9pm. The shake-up will see a host of legendary DJs take to the airwaves throughout the day to deliver the best in old-skool Hip-Hop, R&B, Garage, Dancehall and Reggae. Each week, Sundays on 1Xtra will be the ultimate destination for the hottest throwback mixes, classic anthems, and special guests.

Trevor Nelson moves into a new prime morning slot (10am-1pm) with the biggest R&B and hip-hop classics, while David Rodigan will bring the Reggae and Dancehall rewinds to lunchtime (1-4pm).

The legendary Rampage crew will take 1Xtra back to its roots in the late afternoon (4-7pm). The DJ collective, who co-hosted the first ever show on 1Xtra when the station launched, will return to where it all began to deliver a multi-genre sound-system feel to the slot.

Also returning to 1Xtra will be UK Garage veterans Heartless Crew, who take on the Sunday evening slot (7-9pm) to bring 1Xtra Old Skool to a close each week. The trio, made up of DJ Fonti and MCs Mighty Moe and Bushkin, will bring high energy feel-good vibes to Sunday evenings with guest crews from across the scene.

Jamz Supernova will be turning her focus to her Tuesday night specialist music show (9-11pm, 1Xtra).

Current Weekend Breakfast host Mim Shaikh will be stepping away from the station to concentrate on his TV work, and will be discussing future opportunities with 1Xtra.

Nadia Jae says: “I’m super shocked but so honoured to be taking over the 1Xtra Weekend Breakfast Show! I’ve been on the network for less than a year, but it’s been an incredible journey and I’m so grateful to the 1Xtra bosses and production team for putting their faith in me. Having the Sunday show, the Residency, covering shows and being able to create content at a national level is priceless. I can’t wait to bring that energy to early morning weekends! Expect a bigger and bubblier NJ with tunes and chat to start your Saturday and Sunday!”

Sideman says: “Having a show on BBC Radio 1Xtra is beyond what I believed to be possible or within my reach and I’m so happy and grateful for the opportunity. As with everything I do, I plan to bring my energy and creativity to the slot with great music, continuing to support artists from the Midlands, give my take on everything happening within our culture and have a fun time with our guests with great, natural conversations and games.”

Rampage say: “As a sound system and DJs, Rampage have always been at the forefront of promoting and supporting urban music of all genres. We are extremely proud and happy to return to the radio station that does the same and even more so because we broadcast the very first show on 1Xtra! We will be bringing even more flavour and spice than we did the first time around. Expect high quality mixing, forgotten gems and urban classics, plus the Rampage bants to make you laugh out loud. The circle is complete as Rampage return home to BBC Radio 1Xtra.”

Heartless Crew say: “We had so much fun doing our show at 1Xtra so it’s great to be BACK! Radio was integral to our initial success in the early days and it’s something that we’ve always loved to do. Coming back we’ve now got some new flavours to add to our show, some great features lined up and of course our original Heartless vibes! It’s also gonna be an honour to play alongside some real UK DJ pioneers and we think it’s fair to say the Old Skool Sundays on 1Xtra are gonna be absolutely good you know!”

Mark Strippel, Head of Programmes for 1Xtra, says: “1Xtra has always been immersed in the culture and foundation of black music, championing the future as well as celebrating roots and heritage. We’ve put together a dream line-up for our listeners with 1Xtra Old Skool, giving Trevor and Rodigan an even bigger focus and bringing back 1Xtra favourites Rampage and Heartless every Sunday for a weekly session. We’re really excited to have Nadia Jae join Weekend Breakfast and Sideman bringing the laughs to Saturday afternoons. Many thanks to Jamz Supernova for holding it down every Saturday, and to Mim Shaikh who we look forward to discussing future projects with.”
