OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

NEWS PROVIDED BY
BBC Sounds

The feature launched on BBC Sounds in April, with the first Back to Back Sounds made up of on-demand music content organised by genre, artist or theme or occasion.

By choosing the genre or theme they’re looking for and simply pressing a button, listeners can now enjoy hours of speech content curated from across the BBC and discover everything from hidden archive gems to their new favourite podcast.

BBC News Catch-Up, for example, is an innovative new way to find out what’s happening in the UK and around the world. Headlines are updated by BBC journalists so listeners get the latest news no matter when they press play, followed by episodes of the BBC’s flagship news podcasts for more detail and analysis on the biggest stories.

Jonathan Wall, Director of BBC Sounds, says: “Back to Back Sounds is our exciting new feature that makes it easier for listeners to find and enjoy what they want from across the BBC.

"It gives people hours of shows at one touch of a button, whilst allowing them to choose exactly what suits their taste or mood there and then. We think this is particularly important for anyone less familiar with our shows and brands, so we hope it brings our brilliant radio and podcasts to a wider audience through this easy-to-use feature on BBC Sounds.”

The new Back to Back Sounds are:

• BBC News Catch-Up: headlines updated by BBC journalists, followed by a deeper dive into stories through podcasts and other audio from across the BBC including Newscast, Americast and 5 Minutes On

• Wind Down: audiobooks, storytelling and soundscapes to help listeners drift off, from Classic Stories, Radio 1’s Deep Soundscapes, Slow Radio and more

• The Curious Collection: exploring one curious theme at a time through BBC archive and question asking, assumption-busting shows such as File On 4, Digital Planet and More Or Less
All Day Football: news, debate and chat about the beautiful game including Football Daily, Match Of The Day: Top 10 and more

• Sounds Iconic: to celebrate the BBC’s centenary, Sounds Iconic has extraordinary interviews from the BBC’s archive over the last 100 years, such as Desert Island Discs, The Frost Tapes and Chain Reaction

• Mr Tumble: Mr Tumble sings popular nursery rhymes for young listeners

• Sound Advice: guides to mental and physical wellbeing such as Just One Thing with Michael Mosley, The Joe Wicks Podcast, and The Music and Meditation Podcast

• Bedtime Stories: an audio version of CBeebies ever-popular TV programme. Get your little ones cosy and snuggle up for a bedtime story with special guests Dolly Parton, Tom Hardy, Pearl Mackie and more

• Laugh Yourself Smart: clever comedy that feeds your brain from The News Quiz, Teach Me A Lesson, You're Dead To Me to Infinite Monkey Cage and more

Only on BBC Sounds, listeners can find these new Back To Back Sounds by simply tapping on the podcast tab and scrolling through at the top of the page.
