How did it feel when you found out you were a finalist in Project Icon?

Being told I was one of the finalists felt totally surreal. I was originally unsure about getting involved because I wasn’t convinced my style of music or very DIY indie singer/songwriter/producer musicianship was something Jason and Frank would be looking for. Turns out I was wrong! I guess they found me being my authentic self, even if that meant looking weaker in some challenges, was a testament to me knowing exactly what my sound and brand is, and being unwavering in that. Being told they liked me exactly as I am felt amazing.

You go on quite a journey throughout the series. What was in your opinion, the most valuable feedback that you received?

The most valuable feedback was to push myself outside of what felt comfortable. As I mentioned before, I think knowing your artistry and sound is the most important part, but I learnt that being more open to experimenting outside of your "natural habitat" can expand you in ways you least expect. Being pushed outside of your comfort zone can help you keep your ideas fresh.

What was your most memorable moment?

The most memorable moment for me was performing at BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge. It’s been on my bucket list for years and I started watching Live Lounges as a teenager to help me learn how to play guitar, so it was a real full circle moment. I actually spent the day at the BBC as if I’d been personally invited to deliver a performance and forgot all about the competition. I just wanted to embrace that experience as my own - now I hope to be invited back to perform again.

What did you find the most challenging aspect of the competition?

The most challenging thing for me was being judged on things I’d never usually do. For example, performing in groups to dance music is not something I have done before, so being critiqued on that was tough. I also think because I started on such a high note and being front runner in the first episode based on my song writing and performance ability, meant that I was held to a very high standard each week. Maintaining that high standard whilst doing tasks that don’t fit my sound was very difficult.
