13 talented chefs competed for one exclusive restaurant, but only one would see themselves named as winner in the final episode of Five Star Kitchen: Britain’s Next Great Chef.

In the high-stakes competition series, judges Michel Roux Jr, Ravneet Gill and Mike Reid have put talented up-and-coming chefs through their paces to prove they have the culinary skills and business brain to win a once in a lifetime prize – their own restaurant in Palm Court at the world-famous five-star hotel, The Langham, London.

Tonight, chef Dom Taylor was crowned the winner, receiving one of the most prestigious prizes in culinary history: the opportunity to open a restaurant at The Langham’s Palm Court.

Dom’s restaurant concept is based on his unique cooking style, which combines influences from his Caribbean heritage and his South London upbringing, offering the full flavour of West Indian cuisine in the five-star setting of The Langham.

Since filming the final last year, Dom has been working with Michel Roux Jr and the team at The Langham to develop the menu that will be served at Palm Court and secretly mastermind the launch of his restaurant, The Good Front Room, which will open its doors to diners for the first service tomorrow (Saturday 15 July).

In a nail-biting final, the three remaining competing chefs – Dom, Adria Wu and Jordan Brady – competed in their final challenge. To prove themselves worthy of being crowned winner, each chef was challenged to run the restaurant as if it were their own for one night. With Palm Court packed full of diners, the three finalists needed to devise and deliver a menu representative of their concept to impress their diners, including expert judges Ravneet Gill, Mike Reid and Michel Roux Jr.

Commenting on the winner, Michel Roux Jr said: “We set out to find a hidden gem with an original vision to revolutionise five-star dining. Dom’s concept is personal – it’s what makes his restaurant unique”, adding that Chef Dom’s food “tells a story that I want to be part of.”

Chef Dom commented: “I am absolutely blown away and delighted to have won. My plans for this restaurant concept are big, we’re going to be serving fantastic Caribbean food. Knowing that people are likely to travel from far and wide to taste my cuisine is daunting, but makes me all the more determined to deliver something very exciting and delicious!”

Across the series Chef Dom’s dishes were praised by judges for their depth of flavour and his unique concept was recognised for its potential to succeed on the London five-star food scene.

The runners up in the competition, Adria and Jordan, shared their pride in making it to the incredibly competitive finale of the contest. Jordan said: “To hear chef Roux and all the other judges say such comments really validates that I am doing the right thing and I am a quality chef.” Adria remarked: “It was unreal to be in that room and get that feedback from the judges, especially from Chef Roux. And I think also having my family friends there witness it – it just meant so much to me.”
