Oceanside International Film Festival picks up landlord film set in Riverside County

Tony Olmos’ dystopian satire “Hemet, or the Landlady Don’t Drink Tea” is a film an about an odious and truly vile landlord who will stop at nothing to hold power over her tenants. The film is set in Riverside County during an epidemic but production occurred in San Diego County.

When asked about the movie, Olmos said it has implications mirroring the political situation in America throughout the last decade. It’s a horrifying tale of corruption and how abuse of power turns people against one another.

Starring in the film is Kimberly Weinberger, Brian Patrick Butler, Aimee La Joie, Randy Davison, and Merrick McCartha. The movie earned a Best Dark Comedy nomination during its premiere at San Diego Film Week late in 2023. It will screen next at the 13th annual Oceanside International Film Festival on February 24th.
