Ed Sheeran has put his own spin on Sam Smith's chart-topping 'Stay With Me'.

The singer-songwriter appeared on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge series today (June 5) and he picked the Smith song as his cover.

The track saw the tune stripped back to keyboard and vocals and the version seems to have impressed Smith, who tweeted Sheeran:

"YES @edsheeran!! You just smashed Stay With Me in the love lounge bro!!"

The 'x' man replied: "Ah man :) Thank YOU for making it, it's a stunner of a song."

Sheeran meanwhile is on course to top the UK singles chart this weekend, with his tune 'Sing' currently at No.1.
