Ren Stedman, an artist who’s transition is allowing him to be “the happiest I’ve ever felt!”

Aspiring Trans artist Ren Stedman, who’s latest EP ‘English Weather’ is out now, is at a point in his life where he can truly say he is happy with his transition. But it wasn’t always the case for Ren. This artist didn’t always know what being Trans meant, he just knew that he was born in the wrong body and didn’t want to do what all the other girls were doing. “I had to blend in by pretending I was something I wasn’t” Says Ren of his time in school, before he realised that he was different from everyone else. It wasn’t until he heard the word Trans that he realised that there was a term that described what he had been feeling and that there were people out there who were going through the same! The online community he found, was the support and reassurance he needed during those early years of transition.

Hailing from the polemic Essex County, Ren comments that the local music scene was a huge help in both supporting him and helping him develop as a musician during his change. Although he does say that transitioning whilst being a musician has had its up and downs, mainly people who have tried to take advantage of the fact that he is Trans by making it a selling point when promoting him at various performances, it hasn’t been all bad. Ren explains how The Famous Company, the UK’s largest artist development company, have helped him in his musical career whilst transitioning. With them, he has been able to find a company in the music industry which hasn’t exploited his transition and instead has provided him with professional and respectable advice. He is so thankful for all their hard work during his transition especially since he’s had to re-learn to sing due to his voice going through the expected changes. The Famous Company have worked hard to make sure that Ren is treated with the utmost respect he deserves as a Trans singer/songwriter, making sure that any event they book him in uses the appropriate gender pronoun. They understand that this is something that is very important for him and to many Trans artist. “We have many artists who are LGBT and even though we run a business, our artists are the most important part of this business and if we can’t make them feel confident that we care about them and their careers then there is no point in them working with us.” Commented a spokesperson for The Famous Company.
