McFly and One Direction write new song

McFly bassist Dougie Poynter has opened up on recent writing sessions with One Direction's Niall Horan.

The two camps recently teamed up for a new song, which is being lined up for the 'Kiss You' star's next album.

Speaking to BBC Newsbeat, Poynter said that Horan was involved in the writing process, hinting that they went for a "stadium" sound. He said:

"It hasn't got a title at the moment but we wrote the song with Niall. He's got some good ideas so had a lot of input."

He added: "They are smart guys. They know what they're doing. They play to arenas and stadiums around the world. So I think it's a bit of a challenge to come up with some songs to go with that."

McFly have written for One Direction's in the past, penning 'I Would' and 'Irresistible'.
