UK singer-songwriter ‘James Spencer’ releases his latest single ‘Black Dog’. At the core of James’ music is the desire to tell stories. Tales of life, love, loss and folk-lore. Writing songs comprised of folk and country-infused rock.

James’ latest single is no different, a poignant uptempo folk-rock track about depression and bipolar, which explores the mental cycle often felt by many where in one moment you can be a the top of the world and the next it can come crashing down without warning. For James, this cycle is more prominent in the lulls while not touring or performing but the sentiment is universal. ‘Black Dog’s’ arrangement echos this feeling, a frenzied dose of acoustic guitar and violin lines coupled with barrelling drum beats and James’s expressive vocals gives the track a sense of urgency mimicking the feeling of someone becoming increasingly manic.

James Spencer explains Black Dog further, “To me, Black Dog was born out of a really bad time. It's proof that something constructive can be achieved and you can move forwards no matter what. Even if your whole world has fallen apart, you can still put one foot in front of the other and chase your dreams.”

Hailing from North Devon, UK, James Spencer is a seasoned performer. In 2019 he released his first album ‘Shine The Light’ and has been consistently releasing material from his second album ‘Lucky Man’ throughout 2023. Over the years James has had the privilege of playing many South West festivals such as OceanFest, Here For The Music, Watchet Festival and ShebFest. He has enjoyed sharing festival bills with the likes of Razorlight, Toploader and Tom Odell as well as legends from the grassroots festival music scene including Mad Dog Mcrea, Ferocious Dog and Beans On Toast. He has also had the pleasure of sharing a stage with the likes of Mark Chadwick (the frontman of the Levellers), The Blockheads and West Country Legends 'The Wurzels'. Earlier this year, James embarked on a European Tour across Belgium and Germany with his friends JollyRoger, a pirate-themed folk-punk band based in Plymouth.

With the release of his latest single ‘Black Dog’, James looks forward to further releases along with a forthcoming performance with Dan Donnelly & Jon Sevink (both of Levellers fame) on their duo tour of the UK.
