Sam Smith has suggested that he is "too sensitive" to receive online abuse.

The Brit's stock has risen considerably over the last year and this has resulted in the singer getting more hate on the internet.

He took to Twitter overnight to suggest that his personality isn't the best at coping with abuse, saying:

"Starting to get hate tweets. I knew this would come. I'm too sensitive for this sh*t haha."

Ed Sheeran meanwhile backed Smith after his tweet, saying alongside photos of typical 'loner nerds':

"I'm willing to bet that they are under 12, live in the middle of nowhere, and look like this."
